Dear Garcia Families,

As the school year come to a close, I want to share how proud I am of all of the amazing experiences our students were able to participate in this year.  None of this would be possible if it were not for the amazing teachers, staff, parents and community that help accomplish this year after year.  Garcia is an amazing school and place to be.

As we begin to make our plans for summer please remember to include daily reading, visits to the library, and all of the other wonderful things you do as a family.  iReady, Footsteps2Brilliance, Typing Club, and our amazing school website will be available all summer for our students to use.

We will continue to develop and work on our Strategic Plan and focus on innovation at Garcia.  Our school mission is included here below.  Please review it and become familiar with it.  It defines who we are at Garcia, along with our school brand:

Mrs. Ramona I. Rodriguez

Proud Principal

What is Mrs. Rodriguez Reading?

I am currently reading two books.  I normally try to read a professional book about education and one for lifelong learning or for entertainment.

The professional book I am currently reading is titled: Cultural Proficiency, A Manual for School Leaders by Randall B. Lindsey, Kikanza Nuri Robins, and Raymond D. Terrell.  The exciting part is that I am reading it side by side with other Rialto USD Principals.  This book offers readers the opportunity to reflect on change and how we face our own barriers to change diversity.  It is also exciting to have been able to read the Forward written by an educator whom I admired and respected since I started in education over 20 years ago, Darline P. Robles, former Superintendent of the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE).

I began reading Wonder by R.J. Palacios.  I am currently reading it with my two sons who are in the 4th and 6th grade.  They have already read it, but now I get to read it with them. I am loving the story and the message that it sends to everyone who reads it.  The message is about kindness - something very important to me.  I did see the movie back in December along with our 4th and 5th graders at Garcia, but there is nothing like reading the book.  I highly recommend this book!  Mr. Doug, our custodian also recommended Wonder and did a shout out about this book.  Stop by our school library and ask Mr. House if any of the copies are still available for check out!
